Example projects (aka bloob hauses)

Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to explore a visual design and communication project close to my heart.

I put a great emphasis on flow and beauty, not for a superficial reason, but because communication is delicate and so so essential to collaborating effectively in a troubled yet abundant world.

I have written a lot about this project and the term communication, and I think it's important to consider how communication shapes our social systems and is accepted or rejected.

This is a larger visualization and online "third space" project that i explored in my master's thesis and am building after simmering for 4 years

One of my core struggles with the internet is that it is really hard to put my communication into appropriate containers (e.g. how do i send a letter to someone?), and resource sharing among organizers is still a pain (or expensive).

My masters thesis on interfaces for systemic cooperation is here. It is my goal to develop a platform where anyone and especially organizers can create and share visualization that are more than just linear text.

Values that this project is built on

At the core of all of this is the right to non-distraction. A visitor of a bloob haus has the agency to choose what they want to look at ~ they are not bombarded with a feed of stuff. I take the term haus (german for house haha) very literal. If you go into someone's house, you have agency over what book you open and they have agency over which books they show you. They will likely not show you an advertisement.

  • you can maintain your data in user-friendly graphic interfaces such as Obsidian

  • you can share a note with a friend and leave them a specific message connected to that note
• Making visualization and data storage accessible
  • I strive to simplify the process for people to create their own online visuals and graphics

  • the interface should be easy to understand for new people
  • power-user features should be accessible for deep data ownership, but not the default
• Secure data ownership and protection
  • all your private data is saved on European-owned company servers, so the US CLOUD ACTdoesn't apply. This protects you from governmental brute force access to your data.

Pricing thoughts & ethics

I bought this domain so anyone can host a website on a free domain here so all my friends can get their websites up without paying money. On a subdomain like yourname.bloob.haus

The whole bloob.haus website hosting system is currently completely free - and i have built all architecture on services that are safe and mostly free to use. I run a hand full of websites this way and don't pay a single cent for building a website with the bloob-haus-builder.

• and if you already pay for your own domain name, then it will also stay free for you to use.

My plan is to charge small amounts like 1 dollar a month or 2 dollars a month. I am also looking into usage based pricing. So if your database is small, i might charge you 20 cents. I will also be precise about how much I upcharge on top of infrastructure costs.
